RHYTHMS. We are surrounded by visual rhythms. We find them in the smallest objects and the grandest of vistas, both in the built and the natural world. Like music, these recurring patterns act as a visual beat, provoking different emotions according to their configuration: they comfort us with their regularity and unsettle us with their dissonance. Our inherent need to see patterns - even when there are none - is one of the ways we make sense of the world around us and find order and calm amongst the chaos.
