RHYTHMS. We are surrounded by visual rhythms. We find them in the smallest, mundanest of objects and in the grandest, most majestic of vistas, whether created by the hand of man or by nature. Like the intervals between notes of music, these recurring patterns create a visual beat, provoking within us emotions according to their configuration: they sooth and lull us with their uniformity and harmony and they unsettle and energise us with their irregularity and dissonance. This inherent need to see patterns - even when there are none - is one of the ways we make sense of the world around us and find order and calm amidst the chaos.
