RHYTHMS. We are surrounded by visual rhythms. We find them in the smallest of objects and in the grandest of vistas, both in the built and the natural world. Like music, these recurring motifs and repeating patterns act as a visual beat, provoking different emotions according to their configuration: they comfort us with their regularity and unsettle us with their dissonance. This ability to perceive patterns - even when there are none to see - is one of the ways that we make sense of the world around us seek to find order out of chaos.
