WILD HORSES. Horses have been roaming the sparsely populated, moss-covered landscape and mist-filled valleys of Iceland since they were first introduced by the early Norse settlers over a thousand years ago. Hardy, sure-footed, spirited and, despite their semi-wild existence, trusting and gentle, they occupy a special place in the hearts of Iceland's people, personifying the land of ice and fire.
